There was a time when I spent a large chunk of my meagre salary on comics. Recently, I quit (to the great joy of my wife, who looked at all those huge piles of comics with a grim expression), but one of the things I kepr following in trade paperbacks was The Losers. This is not another superhero tale, but a story about a group about highly trained government operatives, who are set up to die during one of their missions. They survive, and decide to fight for the greater good in their own way, also trying to find out who it was that tried to get them killed, and why. It was a high energy comic with great art and story (based on a 70's original) and could make a great movie. So it's good news that the movie has now been officially announced, with Fantastic Four's Tim Story to direct. "I'm a big fan of the edge of war movies like 'Black Hawk Down' or 'Band of Brothers,'" Story told Daily Variety, "and this has some of that. I was looking for a vehicle that would have that edge, but I didn't want to lose my personality, which is a bit tongue-and-cheek, where the characters have a little fun with each other." The movie will be written by Jamie Vanderbilt, who will base on his story on both the comic and an earlier draft of the script by Peter Berg, who was originally planning to also direct the movie.
