You can divide Disney animation into two distinct periods: with Walt and without Walt. When Walt Disney died in 1966, he took some of the spark and imagination with him that was absent from most Disney animated movies until late in the 80's/early in the 90's, when movies like The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin made Disney animated movies into huge box office hits again. Of course, this period also marks the decline of popularity for traditionally animated movies, which led to Disney claiming they would never make another traditionally animated movie ever again. But now that it has been announced that Disney is (luckily) eating its words, with the release of The Frog Princess pencilled in for 2009, it's as good a time as ever to have a look at which of the later traditionally animated Disney movies you like the most.
I have always been a fan of Disney's traditionally animated movies, and as you could read yesterday, I even like their failures like Treasure Planet. If I would have to give you a top 5, I would first curse a lot (that's hard!) and then I would tell you those five would be (5) Tarzan, (4) The Lion King, (3) Beauty and the Beast, (2) Aladdin and (1) Lilo and Stitch. You may be scratching your head on why Lilo and Stitch is number one, but it's definitely one of the most lovingly crafted Disney movies ever, without the usual cliches that bog down some of the Disney movies. I'm curious to find out which movie you like the most! You can find the poll on the right hand side of the screen.
