Fame can be a funny thing. How many young actresses make their debut in a big movie or television series, ride the wave of hype for a little while and then dissapear without a trace? And why do certain actresses (and actors too of course) stay popular, while others end up behind the counter of their local McDonalds or K-Mart? In the case of Lindsay Lohan, you don't have to dig deep for an explanation of her succes. Because not only has she got the looks, she also has the talent, which will probably ensure that we will keep seeing her in movies long after she has outgrown movies like Mean Girls and Herbie: Fully Loaded.
You can wonder if hype is a good thing for a young actor or actress. After all, the fans can make you, but if they get bored of you they can forget all about you just as easily. But what do you do against this hype? Do you just live wild and enjoy it as much as you can, hoping it won't die down before you have gotten bored of it? Or do you try to earn it by putting in great performances in movies? Lindsay Lohan has chosen the second option. Of course, it's easy to just say that her fame only has to do with her looks. She's one of the prettiest actresses walking around in Hollywood today, and she is so well endowed in certain areas that studios have to tone down her forms instead of asking for her to get a boob job. But it's too easy to just say that it's all about the looks, because time and again Lindsay is getting rave reviews for the roles she puts up there on the screen.
This started at an early age, in 1998, when Lindsay made her big screen debut in the movie The Parent Trap. This movie, the first of her trio of Disney remakes, showcased her in a dual role, as twin sisters who had no idea they were twins and who after this discovery tried to make sure that their enstranged parents would reunite. Unlike many remakes, the movie was a succes, both financially and in terms of how much fun the movie was. Unlike many other child actresses her age, Lindsay could do more than just pull a funny face and look adorable here and there. Still, it took until 2003 for Lindsay to reappear on the big screen, in her second Disney remake, Freaky Friday. Lindsay had grown from a kid into an attractive teenager and the chemistry between her and co-star Jamie Lee Curtis turned this movie into a big, unexpected hit. Nobody expected the movie to make 100 million dollars, but it easily crossed that mark, quickly cementing Lindsay's status as a rising star.
