Dreamworks spins a funny tale about four homesick animals
If things would have gone as planned, this summer would have seen a new battle in the war between the animation divisions of Dreamworks and Disney. Disney was all ready to unveil Chicken Little, their first non-Pixar digital animation since Dinosaur, and a lot is riding on it. With Chicken Little, Disney has to show that they can make smash hits without Pixar, a skill that their animated division seems to have lost in recent years. It's pretty obvious that Disney cannot afford Chicken Little to flop, because studios like Dreamworks, Fox, and ofcourse Pixar, have shown that they have the skills to make very successful animated movies. Disney's movie was scheduled to go more or less head to head with Madagascar, but the studio got cold feet and decided to push it back a few months, to avoid the direct competition and give their movie a bigger chance for success. This does mean that Madagascar has the summer all to itself, and there is every reason to assume it will be a major crowdpleaser.
