This is always one of the coolest times when you are following the production of a movie: the shooting. Especially when that shooting is taking place in a city, where there are always many cameras handy! Like in Montreal, from where we have already seen plenty of pictures. It must have been a strange sight for the people living in the Montreal streets where David Fincher's The Curious Case of Benjamin Button was shooting over the weekend. The filmmakers made their own artificial snow for a scene in which Moscow (for which Montreal is standing in, as well as for Paris) has to be covered in it. People from Montreal have responded with amazement, wondering why the crew didn't come to shoot the movie in the winter in the first place. During winter, however, shooting on Benjamin Button was still very much underway in New Orleans, with no opportunity to pack up and go to Montreal for a real winter shoot. Shooting on the movie will end on Wednesday, ending a very long shoot, and meaning the filmmakers can start with post production.
The latest cooperation between David Fincher and Brad Pitt is finishing it's shooting with an 8 day stint in Montreal. The movie, which has already been shooting for half a year in New Orleans and Los Angeles, is causing quite a stir in the city. Parts of old Montreal are being made to look like 1940' Paris and Montreal, and there is going to be a large shipment of fake snow coming to the Canadian city over the coming weekend. Some people who are living in the area where filming is taking place are less than pleased, with one person telling Canadian newspaper The Gazette that "I feel like my private life has been invaded by some big monster without any warning." The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is a movie about a 50 year old man who is suffering from a curious condition (hence the title), which is making him age backwards. Pitt will play Button, while Blanchett is taking the role of the woman who loves him. Pitt was supposed to arrive for the shoot yesterday, flying in from Cannes, while Blacnhett has already been in Montreal for a few days.
Canadian screenwriter Alex Epstein lives in one of the Montreal streets where shooting is taking place on the new Brad Pitt/David Fincher movie The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
