Watch the new Hulk! Well, at least his silhouette

While you can't look at a movie site these days without stumbling over some new behind the scenes images of Batman, or some official images of the suit or the Bat-Pod, we're not seeing that much yet from The Incredible Hulk. I know that the Hulk movie still has to start shooting, but since the release dates of these two movies aren't that far apart, you'd think there would already be some images released. Well, here is the first teaser image, showing you, well practically nothing. It's The Hulk's silhouette, which might as well have been a picture from one of the comics based on the character. Well, as they say, at least it's something.

"The second Hulk movie will actually be good", says Marvel executive

According to Kevin Feige, one of the higher up's at Marvel Comics' movie division, the biggest difference between Ang Lee's Hulk movie and the new will be that "this one will be good." Feige told Coming Soon that "there are certain elements of the first film that I'm proud of, there are other elements that I'm not. In looking to reboot and start the franchise fresh and new, we wanted to start with a clean slate."

William Hurt joins The Incredible Hulk

Add another name to the incredible (sorry, couldn't resist) talent already attached to the new Hulk movie: William Hurt will take the role of General Thaddeus Ross, father of Betty Ross, the girl in love with Bruce Banner/The Hulk. In the previous Hulk movie, the role was played by Sam Elliott, but like all actors from that movie, Elliott is not returning. Hurt joins Edward Norton, Liv Tyler and Tim Roth, who will all play superhero and supervillain in front of director Louis Letterier's camera soon. This movie is just getting better and better, and they haven't even started shooting yet!

Hulk synopsis revealed

The synopsis to the new Hulk movie has been revealed. There had already been some speculation about what the movie was going to be about (apart from, of course, the Hulk smashing his way around the world), and it's interesting to see the final plot.

"We find scientist Bruce Banner (Edward Norton) living in shadows, scouring the planet for an antidote. But the warmongers who dream of abusing his powers won't leave him alone, nor will his need to be with the only woman he has ever loved, Betty Ross (Liv Tyler).
Upon returning to civilization, our brilliant doctor is ruthlessly pursued by The Abomination (Tim Roth) - a nightmarish beast of pure adrenaline and aggression whose powers match The Hulk's own. A fight of comic-book proportions ensues as Banner must call upon the hero within to rescue New York City from total destruction. And on June 13, 2008, one scientist must make an agonizing final choice - accept a peaceful life as Bruce Banner or the creature he could permanently become: The Incredible Hulk."

This sounds like a great story, which could turn into the big adrenaline packed popcorn flick of 2008. The movie has all the elements in place for great action, but there can also be some emotional stuff with the Bruce/Betty storyline. I'm liking it, and I hope you are too.

As it looks, the summer of 2007 might be the most profitable summer season ever. Already we have two movies breaking records, with another following today, and there are plenty more movies that could be making $ 200 million or more before August ends. But what about next summer? Will it be another threequel feast? Or are we actually going to be treated to a summer that has some more originality? (What do you expect?)

Eric Bana discusses The Incredible Hulk

Eric Bana has talked to Australia's Sun Herald newspaper about the upcoming new Hulk movie, and has said that he wouldn't have been interested in going back to the role himself. “I never went into the first one thinking I was going to do three films. I don’t think the word franchise, or the word sequel. To me it always appeared as a one-off opportunity”. He did continue to give the thumbs up to his successor, Edward Norton, and said: “You know, I can’t wait to see it." Now if that isn't a great recommendation then I don't know what is.

Rumor: Lou Ferrigno playing a villain in The Incredible Hulk?

One of the sources for Superhero Hype has spoken to Lou Ferrigno, the guy painted green and running around int he classic Hulk TV-show. According to this source, Ferrigno not only mentioned being in the new Hulk movie, but even playing the important part of one of the villains. When asked to elaborate on this, Ferrigno got cold feet and realised he had probably said too much already. You never know if this rumor is true, or if Ferrigno will get fired for spilling the beans (probably not), but it's an interesting thing to ponder anyway.

Screenwriter Zak Penn talks The Incredible Hulk

With all the recent casting news, The Incredible Hulk has shot straight into my Most Wanted movies top ten, and I eagerly await anything new about this production. MTV's Movie Blog satisfied my thirst for everything green with an interview with screenwriter Zak Penn, who also talked about the upcoming Avengers movie. Amongst other things, Penn reveals that The Hulk will not be grey ("That’s just a mistake, it’s not going to be grey. Of course he’s going to be green", phew!), that he wants his Hulk to have a bit of the same atmosphere of the old TV-series with Lou Ferrigno ("I always felt about Ferrigno and the makeup was a much more naturalistic version of the Hulk. And that’s what we’re trying to go back to") and that the movie will be more of a thriller than what Ang Lee did with his version of The Hulk.

Another name added to The Incredible Hulk: Tim Roth is Abomination

After Edward Norton and Liv Tyler, another great actor has been added to the cast of The Incredible Hulk. The actor in question is Tim Roth, who will take on the role of Russian KGB Agent Emil Blonsky. Blonsky deliberately exposes himself to the gamma rays that have turned Bruce Banner into the Hulk, only uses twice the amount to make himself even bigger and stronger than our green hero already is. Problem is, this overexposition makes it impossible for him to change back, for which he of course blames Banner, vowing to destroy both him and his green alter ego. Seriously, can this movie get any cooler than it is right now?

Liv Smash! Liv Tyler joins The Incredible Hulk

Is it possible for the people behind the new Hulk movie to make it rise any higher on my most wanted list? First you have the announcement that the focus will be more on fun than the first movie (though I didn't think there was too much wrong with the original), then they hire Louis Letterier to direct (a man who with his Transporter movies has shown he knows how to make a fun, high energy flick), then they go on to hire Edward Norton, a man who is high on my list of favorite actors, as the Hulk and now this: Liv Tyler has signed on to star as Betty Ross, the love of The Hulk/Bruce Banner's life. Though I thought Jennifer Connelly did a good job in the first movie, this is truly 'incredible' news. It's been a long time since we last saw Liv in a big movie, and it will be great to see how she does with this kind of material. Of course, she isn't new to the big budget popcorn genre (Armageddon for instance), and I think she can give the movie a little something extra, as she seems to be fond of complementing her good looks with a little bit of quirkiness here and there. Exactly the type of actress you want in your 'fun' superhero movie.
