30 years of Star Wars, 30 Empire covers

This isn't really news and has probably been online for some time already, but I had not read about it before, so I thought I would mention it anyway, because it's very cool indeed: British movie magazine Empire has decided to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Star Wars movies with no less than 30 different covers. Or actually, 31, because there is an ultra rare Jar Jar Binks gold cover which has a special prize hidden inside for the few lucky people who find this cover in the shops. The collection of covers, featuring heroes and villains old and new, would make a great decoration for on my wall, but I don't really have the funds to buy all thirty. I'm pretty sure though there will be people out there who are going to buy all of them. Are you one of them? My personal favorites are probably the ones with Han Solo, C3P0, Yoda, Boba Fett and Princess Leia. I guess I'm more of a fan of the old series after all. I'm wondering which variations will make it to my local magazine shop!

Star Wars breaks box office records

It was expected, and it happened: Episode 3 came, saw and conquered, scoring 158 million dollars in America, and over 300 million dollars worldwide, claiming top spot for biggest opening ever. This was thanks in a big part to the opening day, which delivered 50 million bucks to George Lucas' piggybank. The friday to sunday portion of the weekend saw another 108.5 million for Star Wars. An insane figure, but that was not enough to beat the record that is still being held by Spiderman. That movie scored 115 million dollars. Still, I don't think the people at Lucasfilm will be that dissapointed! The movie made a lot more moolah in it's first days than the previous two installments, and it will be interesting to see to what heights Episode 3 will soar.

Rest assured: the new Star Wars movie kicks ass!

Yesterday night was the big night. I saw the final Star Wars movie and was completely bowled over. I know there has already been a lot of discussion whether or not this movie would be a good final note for the franchise, and I really think it is.

Report on the English premiere of Star Wars

The London premiere of the new Star Wars movie was, as is usual in the English capital, a big thing. Empire Online has a suitably big report about it which is rather interesting to read, especially since it also includes lots of pics.

Wired interviews George Lucas

Wired magazine has a very long and very interesting interview with George Lucas online. It not only shows what the man himself has to say about his new movies, but also digs into his history and lets some other people (like Peter Jackson and Roger Ebert) tell what they think of Lucas and his movies. Some interesting stuff is said in this piece, and if you are at all interested in Lucas or Star Wars, you should really click this link and check it out.

A Hero Falls video

To whet your appetite for this movie even more, the people at LucasFilm have put up some more Star Wars goodness for you. It's a videoclip, featuring lots of old and some new bits from the new movie, set to the tone of John Williams' A Hero Falls song from the movie. It's fun to watch, giving you in a nutshell what this movie will be all about. You can download it here.

First Revenge of the Sith reviews online

The first reviews of the final Star Wars movie are appearing online. These are all reviews by people who have seen the movie at special screenings (lucky bastards). Most of them appear to be very positive and claim that the third movie is the perfect end to the Star Wars cinema legacy. There's an interesting and very detailed review over at Aint It Cool News, which should give you a good idea of what the movie will be like. Be warned, it's spoiler heavy (although, ofcourse, we all more or less know the ending) but an interesting read.

Kevin Smith, Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright on Star Wars 3

British movie magazine Empire got three movie makers together in one room (Kevin Smith and Shaun of the Dead creators Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright) and let them talk about the new Star Wars movie for a full hour.
