Pirates 2 the year's top film after only ten days

It has taken Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest only ten days to become the biggest movie of the year in America. The movie's gross now stands at $258.2 million, more than any other movie has made this year so far. Outside of America, the movie has now made $125 million, a figure which is set to improve dramatically over the coming weeks. The international roll-out for Pirates 2 has only really started this weekend, since Disney did not want to compete with the World Cup Football. Dead Man's Chest is breaking records across the globe, and it will be exciting to see where this is going to end.

Looking for more Pirates 3 spoilers? How about the script?

This is the type of news you have to take with a grain of salt. A weblogger has posted the first 56 pages of what he claims to be the official script to Pirates of the Caribbean 3 online. Naturally, many people replying to his post have questioned the validity of the claim, but the blogger claims that he has spoken to one of the writers on the movie, who has let him know that this was indeed the first draft of the script, which has since then been heavily modified. If this is all true, then clicking on the link needs a heavy spoiler warning. Especially since reading the posts and comments on this page will give away plenty of spoilers on it's own...

Richards wants whole band in Pirates 3

image hosted by ImageVenue.com

If it's up to Keith Richards, he won't be the only member of the Rolling Stones appearing in the new Pirates movie. Actually, he wants the whole band in the movie, acting like some sort of vile pirate crew that roams the seven seas. Movie executives were less excited about the idea, telling Richards that it wouldn't go with the script. Let's hope they stick to their guns, because I think the appearance of the whole band would just distract from the movie itself.

More records for Pirates

It's fun to watch the various Box Office analysis sites on the web, because they are all very excited about the records that Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead man's Chest is breaking at the moment. Every day seems to be a new record day, as Pirates recorded the biggest non-holiday Monday gross ever, besting Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith's record by $ 3.7 million. The record now stands at $ 18.1 million. Several of the analysts are even speculating that Dead Man's Chest is on track to become the highest grossing movie ever in America, it's sights set firmly on Titanic's $ 600.8 million dollar total. At the very least, it seems like another very successful weekend is ahead for Captain Jack Sparrow and his shipmates, as the two movies premiering on Friday don't seem a real threat to the box office crown. While You, Me and Dupree and Little Man are bound to attract some viewers, analysts predict that the Pirates might take home another $ 60 million to $ 70 million bounty.

The 20 biggest opening weekends ever

If you've read movie news the last couple of days, you cannot have missed the fact that Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest had the biggest opening weekend ever. The movie made more than $ 135 million ($ 135.634.554 to be precise), and bested the old opening record by almost $ 21 million. But which other movies have had openings big enough for movie news sites to break out their biggest possible lettersize so they could break this news?

Review: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006)

We should all be very thankful for the fact that Johnny Depp has kids. If he was childless, he wouldn't have had the need to make a movie for them, which in turn would have meant that there would now be no Captain Jack Sparrow. And even though I'm sure the Pirates movies would still be fun without him, they would have missed that extra element that makes them stand out so much. For Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest is without a doubt the most fun you will have in a cinema all summer. It may be a bit less epic than something like Superman Returns, but watching Jack and his friends travel all over the world, ending up in one bad situation after another, will no doubt shiver any moviefan's timbers.

Want some spoilers for Pirates 3?

If you are one of the many people who have seen Pirates of the Caribbean 2 this weekend, then you were probably left with many questions at the end. Film Focus answers some of these questions for you, in some interviews they had with several cast members. Beware, this contains real spoilers for both Pirates 2 and 3, so don't go to this link if you want to be able to watch the movies without knowing a lot about what's going on.

Pirates of the Caribbean 2 breaks box office records

Box office analysts had expected a good opening for the second Pirates of the Caribbean movie, but nobody could have expected something as big as this. Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man's Chest, made $ 132 million in America this weekend, breaking the four year old record that was being held by Spider-Man at $ 114.8 million. An amazing number, showing that people have been really looking forward to this movie, and that they have maybe been a bit dissapointed with the summer fare released so far this year. Dead Man's Chest made another $ 46.6 million dollars from the seven other countries where it was released, including an equally jaw dropping $ 25 million from the UK. Now all we have to do is wait and see how many more records this movie is going to break.

Great Movie Stills Part II: Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man's Chest

When you have a big budget summer movie that everybody is already looking forward to (a recent poll in Holland for instance showing that no less than 80 percent of all moviegoers see this as the summer blockbuster they don't want to miss), you dont really have to go all out with your movie stills. If you want to give all those people whose bottoms are going to be occupying seats on opening day a bit of a treat beforehand, however, you don't have to go much further than this great shot of Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom, in a setting that promises heaps of fun. There's Johnny's Jack Sparrow in a frankly ridiculous outfit, looking at Orlando's Will Turner, who seems to be in a spot of trouble, while they are moving through an area filled with skulls that don't bode well for our Will.
The picture also raises questions. Like: What will happen to will? Why has he been captured? Why isn't Jack sharing Will's fate? How is Jack planning to rescue Will. Is he even planning on rescuing him? To have these questions answered, you will just have to wait a few more days... Click the thumbnail to get a bigger view of the picture!
