I'll admit that after Lady in the Water, I was a bit afraid M. NIght Shyamalan had lost his touch. The movie is bad in a hilarious way, and it made you wonder how it was possible that this talented man had all of a sudden lost his ability to direct a movie. So I don't know if this has to be credited to the people who cut the trailer for his new movie or not, but The Happening looks like it could be a great return to form. The concept of the movie is really brilliant, but since the trailer doesn't really explain it, I won't go ahead and spoil it either (you can always look it up on the IMDB).
What the trailer does reveal, however, is that something is very wrong. All over the world, people are mysteriously dying. Chemical attacks by terrorists are offered up as the reason, but it soon becomes clear that other forces may be at work here. The trailer is excellent at building up the tension and gives you a few clues about what you can expect. Personally, I am especially curious as to wether or not that huge blue ring Mark Wahlberg is wearing in the trailer has any significance for the rest of the movie. The Happening looks like it will be a big disaster movie with a difference, so I'll eagerly anticipate its release in June.
If you are looking for some kick-ass western action, then look no further than the first trailer for James Mangold's 3:10 to Yuma. The movie stars Christian Bale and Russell Crowe and is all about a group of men who have to transport a villain (Crowe) to jail, with the trip turning out to be a bit more eventful than most of the travellers had hoped for. The trailer is more than happy to throw a few spoilers your way, but I'll guess we'll have to let that slide for once, since it's all backed up by the type of cool wild west action we haven't see for too long.
The new Die Hard movie is just around the corner, and in interviews everywhere, Bruce Willis is telling people that it's going to be just as good as the earlier Die Hard movies. But when you compare the trailers for both the original Die Hard and the fourth part, you can see that something is missing from the trailer for Live Free or Die Hard. Because while the Willis of Live Free or Die Hard is a grumpy old man, snarling his one liners in between performing unbelievable feats, the Bruce Willis of the original Die Hard seems a lot more likeable. You don't get the impression he is gloating over what he is doing (okay, if you have saves the world three times already then you are allowed to gloat a little), and Willis the actor actually seems to be enjoying himself. Plus, he has a full head of hair, not that that has anything to do with. In other words, the trailer for the original just promises more fun, and while I really do want to see Live Free or Die Hard, the trailer for Die Hard is just a much better teaser than anything we have seen so far from the new movie.
