Samuel L. Jackson appearing in Iron Man?

According to Aint It Cool News, Iron Man just became a whole lot cooler. The site has given us the news (which they report as news, and not just as a rumor) that Samuel L. Jackson will have a small role in the movie, as another superhero called Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD. Even cooler is that Marvel is using this to introduce the character for the upcoming Avengers movie. Whoa! So I guess that means Robert Downey's Iron Man will also be in the Avengers, or am I jumping to conclusions here? Anyway, cool that Jackson is adding another superhero role to his repertoire, as he is already involved with The Spirit, did the voice of animated hero Frozone in The Incredibles, and showed his bad side in Unbreakable. As you may recall, David Hasselhof once played the lead in a direct to video Nick Fury movie, but I guess they couldn't get him for this movie...

Iron Man will be rated PG-13

Director Jon Favreau has confirmed on the Iron Man MySpace group that his movie will be rated PG-13, meaning it can be a little more violent than the upcoming Fantastic Four movie, but that there won't be any bloodshed or heavy cursing. And honestly, a good comic book movie doesn't need that sort of stuff anyway.

Check out the first Iron Man footage

American TV show Entertainment Tonight had an exclusive first look at Iron Man when they visited the set of the movie, and Cinematical has put the clip online. Honestly, there isn't much to see that really yells to me: Hey! It's Iron Man! And you don't you see Robert Downey JR. in the suit or anything, but it's fun to see him prance around on the set and enjoying himself, which can only mean good things for the upcoming movie.

Favreau talks Iron Man

On the Iron Man MOvie Group, Jon Favreau has given all his fans an update on the status of his upcoming superhero spectacular, Iron Man. Favreau hasn't really been updating for some time, but there is a good reason for that, according to Favreau. "I have been relatively quiet for two main reasons. First, I feel like the General of a huge military campaign. I have no life other than Ironman. Between the script, sets, effects, shooting and editing, I am completely monopolized. The second reason is, you IM fans are like criminal profilers. You take a few official statements and images, a couple of off the cuff remarks from press junkets and red carpets, and some deftly gathered surveillence footage and are able to take some very uncanny stabs at what the movie will be. The movie is a year away. If I don't keep a few tricks up my sleeve, I can't knock you on your ass in 2008. At the rate you're going, you'll have everything figured out by then. I don't mean to be evasive, but it's my job. I've got to lay low."

Jeff Bridges talks Iron Man

Jeff Bridges was in Hawaii to promote the animated movie Surf's Up, in which he provides one of the voice, and of course he was also more than willing to discuss a little bit of what's going on with Iron Man. "I know Jon [Favreau] is very interested in grounding it in as much reality as he possibly can," he said. "That's kind of informing the whole thing. The suit for instance, I don't know if you saw the first suit, the primitive kind of suit, it looks like, oh yeah, maybe that could happen. It’s all plausible." One of the best things about shooting Iron Man, was, for Bridges, the fact that Favreau lets his actors improvise as much as they like. "we're doing a lot of improvisation in Iron Man to discover scenes and getting off the written page and doing a lot of work like that."

Screenwriter says: Iron Man not just for kids

One of the writers of the upcoming Iron Man, Greg Ostby, has said in an interview that the adaptation will not just be for kids. "You'll be able to bring kids, but there will be something for adults as well."He then continues with something Iron Man fans will be less pleased to hear, about him and his writing partner: It's really our first time working in the comic book genre." Still, if Jon Favreau thought they were good enough, then they must have something going on for themselves. He continues with some other interesting tidbits about the movie. "There's an origin story. Every comic book has an origin story. In the first one, you pay homage to the origin story and update it." And: "He's a guy trying to fix himself. A guy with a broken soul." But in case you are worried there will be too much 'broken soul' and not enough fun, Ostby does end the interview with these words: "It's been fun!"

Gwynneth Paltrow joins Iron Man

Gwynneth Paltrow has joined the cast of Iron Man, joining director Jon Favreau and stars Robert Downey Jr. and Terence Howard. Paltrow, who has some experience with the genre thanks to her role in the underrated Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, will play Virginia "Pepper" Potts, the assistant of Tony Starks, the wealthy industrialist who later on becomes Iron Man. Paltrow joining the cast makes me feel even more confident about this movie, a lot more so than some of the other upcoming Marvel movies (I still cannot get excited about Ghost Rider, sorry). It looks like Favreau is slowly building huge cred for his movie, and I cannot wait to see the first images from the flick. Source
